Common Questions
Do I need the candidate’s permission?
Yes. Under the Fair Credit Reporting Act, an employer must give the candidate a clear written disclosure, in a document by itself, and get written authorization before ordering a background report for employment purposes.
Can I run a credit check for any job?
Federal law allows employment credit reports with the candidate’s written authorization, but several states and cities limit when employers may use credit history in hiring. Check the rules where you hire, especially for roles that do not handle money or financial data.
What if I decide not to hire based on the report?
The FCRA requires a pre-adverse action notice with a copy of the report and a summary of rights, a reasonable waiting period, and then a final adverse action notice. The candidate can dispute inaccurate information with the reporting agency.
Are there monthly or annual fees?
No. There are no monthly, yearly or sign-up fees. You pay by credit or debit card only for the reports you order.
